My sarcastic Christmas note

To all my close family and friends:

Thank you for all the support and caring you offered this summer when our town and our house were involved in the flood of 2011. I really appreciate the way you called to make sure we were all right and the letters of encouragement and support you sent. The post office really had trouble keeping up with the flood of mail and the neighbors were oh so jealous. I am truly lucky to have such supportive family and friends.

What's that? You don't remember sending any notes or making phones calls? That's right. because you didn't.

You know what sarcasm is,m right?

This summer, Minot flooded and was declared a Federal emergency. FEMA was here, the Guard was here and we were out of our house for over 5 weeks. Over 40000 homes were flooded, many to the rafters. Our house was saved only by a 30 foot high wall of dirt that the Guard had to patrol day and night to look for leaks. Had it not been for the temporary levee, we would have had 5-6 feet of water in our house.

During those weeks of worry, not sure whether our house would be dry or even standing when we returned, we did not receive any messages, e mails, texts or phone calls from any of you. This was on National news, people-- how hard is it to know what was happening? For all any of you knew, we could have been floating away down the Mouse River. But did you care enough to ask? No.

Now, you expect a Christmas card from me. Well my holiday spirit's at an all time low this year. I'm in debt, I lost many things in foot or so of sewage and water that filled our basement, my dog died of cancer-- and my friends and family didn't even care enough to call. So if you want a card go to a Hall mark store. You're not getting one from me.
